Gun Safe F.A.Q.

Does every gun owner need a safe?

Locked storage keeps firearms away from thieves, kids and unauthorized users. Some states require it. A quick-access handgun safe is an easy first step.

How many guns will really fit?

Plan on roughly half the advertised number once scopes and accessories are involved.

Are fire ratings worth paying for?

Yes. A safe with no fire rating can cook its contents in a house fire. Look for time and temperature, and an expanding door seal.

Should a gun safe be bolted down?

Always. A bolted safe cannot be tipped onto its back and pried, or carried out the door.

Biometric or keypad?

Biometric is fastest for a quick-access box. A keypad is proven on a main vault. Both should have a backup key stored away from the safe.

Where should it go?

Ground floor or basement, on concrete, out of sight. See Where To Start.
